Tuesday May 6 Historic Indy Cars on display and on track, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday before the 500. In an annual show organized by the Speedway Museum the historic cars of the 500 and their owners are treated to hospitality, a banquet and some pace-car controlled laps May 28, 29, 30.
Friday April 25 Darlington Historic Oval Racing Festival “Request for Entry” available in May Vintage Oval Racing magazine issue. The “Requests for Entry” form is being sent for the April 29-31 big vintage and historic racing to all who have mailed in the “intent to enter” forms mailed out in the last few Vintage Oval Racing magazine issues, plus members of the VSCAR and HCICA. “Request for Entry” forms will also be sent to some 60 Vintage Oval Racing clubs for distribution to their members. Wednesday April 10. A History of the Mighty Midgets at Towe Auto Museum Sacramento. A Special Midget racing car exhibit will open April 28 with a presentation by author Tom Molter on the History of Midget Racing. That history began about 1933 and continues to this day. Tom has written numerous oval track racing books and they will be available for purchase and signing.
Many historic Midget racing cars will be on display at the museum on Front Street in Sacramento Through June 28. The Exhibit is presented by the Towe Auto Museum and the Sacramento Art Deco Society.
Wednesday March 26, Vintage Oval racing clubs are urged to update their media contact officer listing with Vintage Oval Racing Magazine. Vintage Oval Racing Magazine has a goal of reporting every vintage oval racing event large or small. Whether it is a few paragraphs and a photo for a small event or a three-page report with a dozen photos, it should be reported. Call Dave Stewart to update the club media contact 650-321-1411.
Wednesday March 24 Historic Champ/Indy Roadster racing Car Owners who wish to display their cars and take a few exhibition laps during the Darlington NASCAR Sprint Cup Race weekend May 9,10 please contact Historic Champ Indy Car Association 650-321-1411, Pam Shatraw or Dan Davis. The exhibition tent for the upcoming Darlington Historic Racing Festival August 30, 31 will have both selected Historic Stock Cars and Indy Roadsters on exhibit and staged for on-track laps. There will be info on all the invited types of cars, stocks, Champ/Indy, Modifieds, Sprints, Dirt Champs, and Midgets.
Monday, March 17, 2008 - The Historic Champ/Indy Car Association brought out two dozen cars to run on the big two mile California Speedway Oval during the VARA Route 66 Classic Road Racing Weekend March 7,8,9. The cars were on track twice per day at reasonable speeds with no pace car. Several more events in 2008 will have the big fast Champ/Indy Cars from various eras on-track. There are events at New Hampshire International Speedway, Jennerstown Speedway, Milwaukee Mile, Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Darlington International Speedway. Monday, March 17, 2008 - Entering Darlington Historic Oval Racing Festival? The "Intent to Enter" forms are in the February issue of Vintage Oval Racing Magazine. Returning these postage paid forms will help the organisers with pre-event publicity and get your car on the intent to enter list. The formal entry forms will be sent to all the vintage oval owner/drivers that we are able to find with cars. They will also be sent to the many vintage oval racing clubs soon. Tuesday, March 4, 2008 - Historic Stock Cars and Champ/Indy Cars to Demo During NASCAR weekend at Darlington May 8,9,10. To promote the big Darlington historic Racing Festival on Labor Day weekend, August 29-31, there will be selected vintage and historic oval racing cars on display and on-track during the big NASCAR Sprint Cup weekend May 8,9,10. Darlington Raceway opened with a big Stock Car race on Labor Day in 1950. It was North America's first asphalt paved oval. A few months later, in December, Darlington hosted a Champ/Indy car race. Over the succeeding years, the track has been the scene of great racing for many types of oval racing cars driven by great drivers. The Darlington Historic Racing Festival August 29-31, Labor Day Weekend, will host North America's first nationally promoted, big spectator, vintage racing weekend with all types of historic oval racing cars on-track and on display in the spectator accessable paddock. Thursday, February 21, 2008 - The Darlington Historic Racing Festival August 28-30 features every type of oval racing car on-track in exhibition sessions Saturday and Sunday.
