Wednesday July 1 Last call for historic Open Wheel cars wishing to do exhibition laps on the Texas World Speedway oval, Sunday July 5 during the big spectator Fan Fest. This is a promotion for the big three-day on-track Open Wheel oval gathering in November. Call HCICA rep in Dallas, Brad Balles at 214-354-4611.

Friday June 26 The Historic Champ/Indy Car Showcase at Watkins Glen on the July 4th Indy Car Weekend has been cancelled. The required number of Historic cars could not be secured on short notice. There is an exhibition of Indy Roadsters at Texas World Speedway on July 5 organized by HCICA for the TWS Fan Appreciation Day. This is also a promotion for the full vintage weekend of HCICA organized Historic Champ Indy Cars on the TWS two-mile oval and CVAR Historic Sports and Formula cars on the TWS road circuit on November 13-15. Historic Indy Cars and other oval racing cars will also be at Darlington International Speedway September 26-27 for the 2nd Annual Darlington Historic Racing Festival.

Southern New York Racing Association’s Eighth Annual Reunion July 19th
The SNYRA Reunion will be held on Sunday July 19, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the O’neil Center of Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, Connecticut. This promises to be a great event, with some of the restored Stock Cars that originally ran at Danbury from the 1950s to 1981. Meet some drivers, car owners and fans of the Danbury Race Arena.
This is also a charity event, in which raised over $8,000 last year for chick Stockwell, whose barn was the victim of a fire caused by a lightning strike. This year, the proceeds from the event will be donated to Evie Pierce who had a stroke and is currently in rehabilitation.

Friday June 19 The West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame Induction and Dinner is July 3 in Irwindale, California The celebration at Toyota Speedway includes the dedication of a permanent wall of fame monument at the track. There were originally 300 tickets for the 5:30 p.m. cocktails and 7:00 p.m. Hall of Fame dinner at a price of $25. This will be a great new west coast racing tradition. Thursday June 18 Formula Libre races were a great and exciting part of racing history. The big, fast, powerful, loud, historic Indy- Champ- Formula One- Indy Light- Formula Atlantic cars return to vintage racing in a highly promoted Formula Libre unlimited sound feature during the Club Auto Sport Uncorked Vintage races on Mazda Raceway September 12-13. This is a major spectator vintage race at the legendary Laguna Seca. The Formula Libre featured cars will be on track for practice twice on Friday and will have a morning qualifying session and an afternoon feature on both Saturday and Sunday.
There are several other race groups also with the same schedule. These include Historic NASCARS/Stock Cars, Trans-Am Cars of all eras, Big Bore Sports Cars, Vintage Motorcycles and an open group for recent exotic and racing cars.

Monday June 15 HCICA Historic Champ/Indy Cars will be on-track and on display at Watkins Glen July 3-5 during the Indy Car Racing Weekend. The Historic Champ/Indy Car Association and the Watkins Glen International Raceway invites historic Champ/Indy Cars for on track exhibition session Friday, Saturday and Sunday and to be on display for the fans all weekend in a featured display tent in support of the contemporary Indy Car race on Sunday. HCICA entrants will arrive on Friday and have a welcome party Friday late afternoon.
There will be HCICA organized owner/driver hospitality in the display tent and other special entrant benefits.
Historic Champ/Indy Cars from all eras will be considered. The number is limited so call HCICA ASAP if you are an interested car owner/driver. Contact HCICA, who is organizing the entry, Dan Davis Chairman or Pam Shatraw events manager at 650-321-1411 (CA).

Friday June 12 Gooding & Company has two nights of auctions at Pebble Beach featuring the Lyons’ Collection among other oval-related cars during the Monterey Historics August 15-16
This year, Gooding & Company has a ’66 Shelby Cobra 427, Ettore Bugatti’s unrestored personal Type 57C Coupé from the Don Lyons collection. Also from Lyons’ collection are the Dean Van Lines Special, which Mario Andretti drove in his rookie year at Indianapolis and the Gurney Eagle, which finished fourth at Indy in 1967, Denny Hulme’s Smokey Yunick-entered City of Daytona Beach Special.

Monday June 1 Selected Historic Champ/Indy Cars will do four 15-minute exhibition runs on the big two-mile oval at Texas Motor Speedway, Sunday July 5 during the Fan Appreciation Festival. Selected Historic Indy Roadsters will participate in the four afternoon sessions and be on display between runs for fans to enjoy. Other racing activities will include exhibitions on the three-mile road racing circuit now used by CVAR for vintage racing weekends and used in 1969 for an SCCA Can-Am Series Race won by Team McLaren. The big oval was used in the late 1960s and 19702 for many big events. Thursday May 14 Historic Indy Car Laps are on the official Schedule for the Indy 500 Friday May 22. The annual gathering of 33 invited Indy 500 cars that have participated in the race in the past, is organized by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame. The invited cars are on display when not on track for a few laps behind a celebrity driven pace car. The driver/owners of the historic cars are treated to hospitality during their time at the speedway and two tickets to the 500.

Monday May 4 Vintage Oval Racing Magazine is looking for more Before & After submissions! With the vintage season getting underway, we know some of you were busy during the break restoring or building cars to race in 2009. We want your photos! Each month Vintage Oval features a restoration, with three pictures: one prior to restoration, one during and another when it's all done. Friday May 1 The Historic Champ/Indy Car Association Cars will have vintage races on the two-mile Texas World Speedway oval during the CVAR 18th Annual Fall Vintage Festival Vintage road racing weekend November 13-15. Several Indy Roadsters of the late 1950s and early 1960s will make promotional on-track exhibition laps July 5 at TWS during the track’s Fan Appreciation Day.
The November Historic Champ/Indy Car Association Car schedule calls for two on-track, no pace car at reasonable speed exhibition sessions twice each day Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The 40th Anniversary Reunion of McLaren Engines and all its past staff and customers will be Thursday July 30th at the Livonia, Michigan Facility with McLaren, Indy and Can-Am Cars on Display. Many of these cars will also be part of the Meadowbrook Concours, August 1-2. The facility was began by Bruce McLaren to build Can-Am Engines for his team. Wiley McCoy and Roger Meiners are organizing the event. The Historic Can-Am Association and the Historic Champ Indy Car Association have been asked to help secure display cars for the event. Historic McLaren Can-Am and Champ/Indy Car owners who are interested should call Dan Davis or Pam Shatraw 650-321-1441 (CA).

Thursday April 23 Autovino on the San Francisco Peninsula has a collector and racing car storage and showplace, Auto enthusiasts club and meeting place, fine wine storage facility, a cigar enthusiasts room plus an on-site winery. Thursday April 16 Orders for the National Speedway Directory of 2009 are being taken at $14. This is a goldmine of info on racing. Nearly 1,400 tracks are covered in 608 pages, including road circuits, drag strips and ovals. There is also listings for sanction groups, publications and museums. The track info includes location, type of racing, contact info, staff, etc. Checks may be sent to National Speedway Directory PO Box 448, Comstock Park, MI 49321-0448.

Tuesday April 14 Colorado Vintage Oval Racers are Returning to the Pikes Peak International Raceway Oval May 30. The Raceway has new owners and CVOR driver/owners will have exhibition laps three times during Saturday on the infield oval. There is also a custom car, Street Rod and Racing Car Show. CVOR registration by Rod Rodriguez is 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. with vintage laps starting at 10 a.m. Vintage oval entrants call President Gary Huibregtse 970-221-9273 (CO).

Monday April 6 The IMCA Third Annual Racers Swap Meet and Test and Tune is April 25 at Raceway Park Shakopee, Minnesota. Racers and parts for all car types are invited: Late Model, Hobby, Modified, Vintage, Drag, Street. Wednesday April 1, Peter Bryant noted racing car designer, crew, team leader, author, whose career spanned F.1, Indy, Can-Am plus the contemporary transportation scene, passed away on Tuesday morning March 31.  Services will be private and information on a memorial service will be forthcoming.
